Is there any value in a full set of the World Book Encyclopaedia in excellent condition? They were bought in 1974.

I've seen them offered for sale in charity shops. They often try charging around £30 for the set but then, when they get no takers, reduce that to £20 and then again to £10. Even then nobody ever seems to be interested.

Many thanks for all your answers. I am not actually interested in the money. I just can't bring myself to take them to the dump. I know that they are dated and with the internet perhaps not all that much use. Maybe I should try to get the local elementary schools interested. Any suggestions on disposal would be welcome.

Regards,

Carcrash.
Take the word of a (recently ex- ) librarian. Honestly, nobody wants these. I have thrown away my own encyclopaedias.
Try offering them on Freegle:

There IS a 'books for Africa' website (https://books2africa.org/donate/), which the last time I looked seemed extremely picky, particularly about text books (and probably encyclopaedias), only wanting recent editions.
My own 'feeling' (i.e. not worth much) is that if I was helping to run a school in the wilds of Africa, then ANY book would be better than no book, given the almost unbelievable poverty many of these people endure.
But books in the affluent west? No, just a collectors item...
