Bloody annoying isn't it!!
I didn't know that they did.
I don't know but it's always something I used to say.
got absolutely no idea, bit it doesn't bother me.

Couldn't care less if they are practising, perfect or fallen by the way-side.
Each to their own.
I haven't noticed that.
same as vegans n vegeterians!
do they? i meet lots of people but still don't know their religion ...

I have never heard anyone say " I am a good protestant girl"

Just saying
I wouldn't say they 'always like to let you know ...' - all my family are Catholics, and they never mention the fact, even to each other.

I am not sure where you get this notion from - ?
I think it's the 'good Catholic girl' expression. Not really to be taken seriously.
Question Author
In my experience when meeting strangers it somehow crops up, just been to mass, the priest said, the nuns at school etc, etc.
Finny.....I agree......"I'm a good Catholic girl" seems to be a cliche, a joke, a touch of doublentente.....a snappy answer.
But as you quite rightly point out, other religions don't use that.

I suspect that sqad will have known a few 'good catholic girls' in his time :-)

One of the worst things about living in the West of Scotland is some folk judge you on which football team you support and then leap to the wrong conclusion about one's religion.
alba, //I suspect that sqad will have known a few 'good catholic girls' in his time :-) //

You read my mind. :o)
Finny - are you a Prod or what LOL - can recall this big time. I was 13 and had never met a Prod - however one of my aunts took me into unfamiliar land and I remember saying to her "Oh Doreen I am afraid am afraid of the Prods. - I am sure Doreen *** herself.

My first encounter with a Prod when I was 16 and started work.

Am I right in saying that you cannot play for Man City FC, unless you are a catholic.

I am sure I read that years ago
Gays do the same. Always manage to drop it into the conversation, when no one really cares either way.

Don't think I've ever told anyone I'm straight.
Question Author
To distinguish yourself as not being a "prod" is one of the saddest things I have heard.

I have no religious persuation whatsoever, all total bunkum and devisive.
Surely when meeting strangers, you only know about the ones who DO tell you? How many don't?
