Perhaps not the correct way to go about it, but is this any different to those who complain there are not enough black actors etc, or there are too many white football managers etc?

I knew him as our dters were in the same class as teenagers. He liked a drink, cared for his father till his demise. He regularly opened local fetes & charity fares - for affordable fees. Always a gentleman and supportive family man. He deserves a gong but alas he hasnt bought it by donating into the 'tax dodge' Princes' Trust.
Nobody has explained why Boycott hasn't already been awarded a gong, at least nothing since his OBE.

I know very little about cricket but it is said that his style of playing was boring, so could this be a reason why he hadn't had a Knighthood ?
AOG

I'm not going to say why, because my post will be deleted, but there is a stunningly good reason why Geoff Boycott has not been knighted.

You'll find out when he dies.
All very confusing looking at who got a knighthood and who hasn't and who actually gives them out. I never take much notice of them other than to say summat like 'how has that *** got one' ... Only one Ozzy good enough for a knighthood?

Anyway on the whole cricket is crap and a game of opinions when it comes to who are the greatest players.
With 100/200 metre sprinting however you know who is the
greatest.
I don't really go in for these knighthoods but if I were to care I would say give Usain Bolt his asap. He's a great character and undeniable the greatest ever sprinter.
I think it's a bit unseemly to be outspoken about not getting a knighthood. David Beckham did the same, but via email.
Oh, by the way - what percentage of those ennobled each year are non-white?

Here's a list:

For Mr Boycott to have a point, we should expect the vast majority to be black.

Are they?

If they are, then Mr Boycott would have a good point.

It's nice when people speak plainly. It makes it easier to identify how thick they are.
For Mr Boycott to have a point, we should expect the vast majority to be black.

Where is your logic for that?
Once again AOG, a well made point. far too many black Knights aren't there? It's something that troubles me on a daily basis. Oh and well done on the comparison to actors and football managers, it's so relevant to the original question.
Does any pay enough attention to knighthoods to tell me who can grant them?

from wiki
Sir Isaac Vivian Alexander "Viv" Richards KNH OBE (born 1952), created a Knight of the Order of the National Hero in 1999 by the Antiguan government.

?
10% of the successful candidates come from a BAME background, the greatest ever number of BAME recipients in an Honours List

Found it.

You then asked:

Answer - in the words that I used.

But to expand - Geoff Boycott indicated that in order to get a knighthood, he would have to black up, which means that he thinks that he would have a better chance of getting a knighthood if he were black.

In order for that to be true, the vast majority of those honoured would have to be black.

Do you see what I mean?

It doesn't really make any sense for him to say that.

Oh dear.

If 10% of those receiving honours were BAME and 13% of the UK population are BAME, then that means that being black is actually statistically disadvantageous to one's chances of being enobled.

Here ya go:

that sounds right, sp1814. My guess is that Geoffrey actually has all the demographic advantages - white, well off, of a certain age - and yet still hasn't wangled a K.

It's most peculiar. Maybe next he should claim to be a lesbian?

Oh dear.

Why on earth did you start that post with 'Oh dear'?

There are 19.5 non-West Indian Knights and 10.5 West Indian Knights (Sir Gary Sobers has joint Barbadian/Australian nationality.)

AOG - //I don't suppose he thinks very highly of you too, but he is too much of a gentleman to say the same. //

His long and public record of being offensive and boorish suggests that, actually, he probably would, but honestly - who cares what he thinks?
Was he an Australian cricketer?
If that's for me, he was knighted by Australia and not Barbados.
Here is somewhere for Mr. Boycott to move to:

And then, if one day he is offered a knighthood, he can always refuse as a protest. There's a word for that, can't quite recall it now ...
