I was chuffed to see this, Mikey! I've been an Aldi fan for years but lately I've had some cracking good stuff from Lidl.... I do still have the two friends who won't shop at either....they drive to the next town because.....in his words.... Oh no, no.....we're a Waitrose couple, aren't we darling?...... I'd so love to have that put on matching tee shirts for...

best chocolate too !
Baldric, 17.29....I just knew that you would ask for links....well, I'm not doing the work for you because there are so many instances over a good period of time. But, you could start with Channel 4's "Tried and Tasted" (eight-part series, finished 2 Aug 17) or Which's Blind Tasting on everything from tomato ketchup, tomato soup etc to Champagne....
Will you be getting a bonus on your retainer, Mikey? :-)

Well....I guess I should do, after all this hard work !

I opened one of those Cotes du Rhone last night. I can't drink quite the same as I used to be able to, mainly due to medical reasons, but this bot should last me until Friday.....very drinkable !
No Waitrose in Dundee - so do most of my shopping in Lidl and Aldi; can't be beaten for quality and price IMO. Very occasionally visit Asda.
Given the choice I won't cross the threshold of Asda.

I can detect the feint smell of cigarette smoke, whenever I call into my local ASDA, which isn't very often.

It's a reference to popularity vs. quality.

Was it not obvious?

@ 18:14. ok. so you can't do links, never mind.
Eccles, you could try crossing the threshold of Asda's new store, if you can find it. It's on the Isle of, er...

What is obvious is that Lidl and Aldi are popular because they sell quality products, try them
FinnyMick

Are you absolutely sure about that?

I thought that their USP is that they are considerably cheaper than Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

I can't try Aldi and Lidl because where I live, they don't have car parks.
Can't say I think it much matters. They cater for different sections of the market. I shop anywhere I can get what I want. Nearby if possible. And I avoid those without free, hassle free car parking.
Over many years I have shopped at most of the supermarkets. Lidl and Aldi , once looked down upon, are superb , exceptional quality.
Their prices reflect how successful they are, rapid growth etc.

Morrisons are also very good, they have superb offers. Also, Home bargains are excellent.
I presume some think that J D Wetherspoon pubs are rubbish as they can undercut others. They are excellent value and continue to expand whilst other pubs are closing.
