My American friends are going to meet me in Bath, early next month.

They have given me their Cell phone number. Does anyone know the cost of them texting or calling me, when they are over here, or the cost for me to text them while they are in the States, and then again, when they are over here ?

It would probably depend on your provider as to what costs are incurred.

A BIL has 2 phones, one for use when abroad and one for use when he's in the UK
Use Wassup with wifi. Then you won't get any suprises.

I don't want to go the trouble of setting up a wassup, so I just need to know the cost of a simple text. For instance, is it just 10p ?
who is your provider?

Mr Alba and I are each on different networks, but both cost 12p per text.
Mr Alba does get 300 free text messages when he tops up his mobile (paygo) where I need to use my credit for texting but get other benefits.
The cost to you will be the same regardless of which country they are in - it will be the cost of an SMS to a US number. How much that is will depend on your service provider and the tariff you are on.

OK...thanks....my carrier is 02......I will have to plough through their website.

I have sent a text, but it has come back as "not delivered"

The number is in the form of 517 449-xxxx, so I am guessing that I need to add some digits somewhere.
I have no idea what digits are needed to add to send a text to the US, sorry.
I know that sending from abroad to the UK, I think you need to add 44 before the number.

Someone with much more knowledge will be more helpful xx
+00 at the beginning, mikey
Apologies, mikey - it's +1
Yes +1. By the way it's Whatsapp and it's really easy to install and use. Apart from being free as long as you have an internet connection it has the advantage of doing video calls as well as normal calls and text messages.
Yes Whatsapp is VERY easy to set up.

And if you text or phone over Whatsapp over wi fi it is totally free.
