Is there a way people can download a mobile application directly by clicking on a URL link? A link that will work for both direct downloads on all phone types (android, iOS, etc.).

What works on one operating system won't work on a different one. Plus many phones are set to default to only downloading from trusted sources. I'm guessing but since PC Windows downloads if the URL is a path to the actual file, then I don't see why, in theory, it wouldn't be possible on a mobile. But to work it'd need to be more sophisticated to identify the mobile OS and send different executables to match.
