No. I wish I had a longer and more interesting answer, but that's it.
I had no problem recently. The cigarettes and lighter were in my handbag.
Really? Wow! I'm very surprised, Tilly.
novelty lighters in the form of a gun are frowned upon

i think officially no but I have made 6 flights in the last 6 months and always had a lighter in my handbag. It was taken off me at security once from those 6. At the same time my husband went through a different scanner and he kept his. I always put one in my handbag and one in my hold luggage to increase the chances.
If the lighter restrictions are meant to thwart terrorists, what's the point of this:
//they need to be secured in DOT-approved airtight travel bags.//
so any would-be terrorists won't open their airtight travel bags to get to the lighter?

Yes you can have 1 lighter anymore than that and they suggest that you put them in your luggage

thankyou for answers xx
It's allowed on the person but NOT in the hold as it is classed as dangerous goods.
BTW - for dangerous goods purposes, on the person strictly speaking means in the pocket but due to liquids rules, it should be put in a liquids bag.
I've never been stopped. I put my cigs and lighter in the tray and put them back in my bag/pocket when they come through.
I just put the lighter in the clear plastic bag with other liquids and never had a problem.
I don't smoke and never have so know very little about lighters.
Anyway back in 1988 my friend was a taxi driver and sold disposable lighters to his clients when asked.
I was taking a day trip to Jersey and he said can you get me some cheap lighters , they are less money in Jersey.
So I purchased 50.
So I turn up at airport for trip home and chap at customs says
'I hope that bag isn't full of lighters ?'
I said " yes 50"
He then handed me one back and tipped the remainder into a skip full of disposable lighters.
I was very naive you could say lol

On return I handed my friend the one lighter and charged him for the 50 :-)
