Had a recorded phone call this morning asking me or my solicitor to ring a given number immediately or legal proceedings would be started against me. Didn't catch the number and when I did 1471 there was no number recorded. Even though I was sure it was a scam, it's really shaken me. I rang HMRC and a lovely lady agreed it was a scam, she said there are a lot around particularly at the moment. HMRC do not phone, e-mail or send texts, they send a letter!

Yep, had a few emails supposedly from HMRC, telling me I owe them a certain number of pounds and pence, whereas in real life I tell them what I've worked out that I owe.

Just delete and ignore.
The real problem is HMRC make so many clockups that you are almost expecting a message.
