I'm mulling a few ideas over and am thinking of buying a pub as many of the old school type ones have closed down due to the popularity of themed pubs leaving many folk who don't like the young, loud and characterless theme pubs.

What would draw you there and what do you miss about the old school pubs that you would happily welcome if one opened up near you?

Thanks in advance.

The idea of a quiet pub is ok, but I would suggest a small group playing folk music.
And Morris dancers in the beer garden during the summer months.
The last thing I'd tolerate is dogs slobbering & fed from customers plates, peeing, vomiting while I try to eat.
You need to frequent higher class establishments Tambo.
We're talking old school pubs. Not gastropubs...!!

Baza...he used to :-)
Hell, I know there are one or two questionable pubs around Windsor but I have never enountered any of that behaviour Tambo! From pets or punters.
Likeaboss....Britain's highest Pub, the Tan Hill Inn is up for sale.....only £900,000 !

My 5 dogs stay home when I go pubbing. There are fab pubs around Cookham & Denham, none with dog punters, eccles
It sounds like you are reflecting the behaviour of your 'pack' on to a solitary well behaved mutt having a snooze under your chair.

Personally I prefer Holyport pubs.
I can tie my horse to a tree in my pub garden
"...but I would suggest a small group playing folk music."

And I'd suggest 95% of your punters would be straight out the door !!!!
As there are so many possibilities your best bet is to look at the other pubs near your location and see what they do. Then do something different. No point in trying to beat the opposition just look for a market that the others have not covered.
Eddie at 13.16. You've shifted the goal posts but nevertheless you were wrong - again. Accept it.

I was in Padstow for two weeks about a month ago and all of the many pubs were dog friendly served food and had five star rating !.

Anyhoo back to traditional, can't beat a good old spit and sawdust boozer with the traditional punch up on a Friday / Saturday night.
