i suppose if i think about it literally it used to be about 20 years, but now more flexible

but ..... my gt grandfather ( four generations ) was born in 1827- first child 1867 which is kinda late for a victorian
I've always thought of it as roughly 30, but apparently it's about 35 for men, 29 for women
