Wrap around bumpers like the go-karts at the seaside within five years.

How safe is that? Make the cars so that you can't see out of the cockpit. Haha don't ya just love a health and safety meddler.
I've no idea how useful it is, nor how necessary, but I suspect the brain would soon filter out the thin strip in practice. May be more outrage being expressed than is justified.
They might as well go the whole hog and have the drivers sitting in the pits driving the cars by remote control. As I've said before, it has become glorified Scalextric.
Mike Hawthorn (Britain' firss F1 world champion)used to turn up for race meetings in his 3.4 litre Jaguar wearing a bow tie and slip on loafers. He'd put on a pair of overalls and off he'd go racing (no seat belt).

He survived all that and was killed in a collision with a lorry on the Guildford by-pass.
It looks horrible - but may save someone's life ...

Is it the look , or is it the idea of a cockpit safety device of this nature - which is it ?

Is it the look , or is it the idea of a cockpit safety device of this nature - which is it ? " - neither, I'm not convinced it's a net safety device, looks dangerous to me, pillar right in front of the driver's face, must affect vision surely
Well TTT...from your own link it seems that the GPDA and many of the top drivers are in favour of it.
