Any Dr's or nurses out there? I'm desperate for help! Sorry this might be long but hang in there please. Can't sleep. Really don't know what is going on. I admit I don't drink half enough of what I should do but water is so bland and apart from that I can only drink black tea and 1 or 2 small bottles of cranberry juice a day.

So because of that I guess the Infection I have started in my right kidney, as I was getting a sharp twinge which was increasing in frequency. I drank water non-stop for a day, maybe a little bit of relief but it didn't go, and constantly back and forth to the toilet. Tried to book appointment to see Dr but all gone, had to phone out of hours number. Got an appointment that evening.

Dr said I have a urine infection as she saw traces of blood in my urine?? and the best way to treat it is with an antibiotic called Trimethoprim. So, I was prescribed that twice a day for 3 days. Tomorrow morning (Thursday) is the final dose and it's moved/spread to my bladder I think and making me feel like I'm burning but it doesn't burn when I 'go'??

What is causing this to spread/move and why aren't the antibiotics working? I can't take antibiotics at a normal adult strength because of the severe IBS and an intolerance I have to them, and I have a huge fear of feeling/being sick.

Sitting here in bed, frequent trips to the toilet, drinking water , I'm scared, panicky, anxious and feel lonely, as well as discomfort.

I must get well for the 24th July as someone very special that I haven't seen for a long time is staying for a few days. Such typical and awful timing.

I'm going to have to phone the out of hours number again and tell them it's spreading or moving.
Would constantly going to the toilet cause the sensation of burning in my bladder and the outer area or something else?

Please help!

Bednobs...

I am on the full strength dose, it's just suddenly started to make me feel bad today.

I'm off to the doctors now, goodness knows what will happen
Let us know how you get on.
Lisa,
I am exactly in the same boat as you, and I am on the last day of Trimethoprim 200mg today, after trying lots of others.

I have had a scan, and it showed my bladder was not emptying all the urine, which caused it to stagnate.
This caused peeing frequently, and pain when passing.

They also found that my prostrate was enlarged, which could also be a factor, and have been given Flomaxtra XL 400mg, prolonged releasing tablets.

I have to got for another test next Thursday, to test the speed of flow of urine, or something like that.

Let us know what the doc says, and calm down, and dont worry to much.

I di write a response but halfway the web page encountered a problem, reloaded and I lost the lot. Great.

So, in a nutshell because I'm not writing all that out again, saw Dr, a locum, advised me to carry on with the awful Trimethoprim and come back on Monday. (That's if I can get an appointment). Drink lots as I have been since Sunday. He examined me, was a bit sore but not painful as he expected. I felt sure he should have tested my urine again but he didn't. (Yesterday's swab resulted as no infection detected but they are not 100% accurate apparently) he said no to a scan as he didn't think I needed it but I had to beg him just to rule out anything else going on so he reluctantly printed off a request form and then kind of dismissed me.

Back home, phone the number to book a scan and it just rings and rings and rings. Nothing.
Oh dear, keep trying Lisa - hopefully things will start to clear up soon.

Thank you Mamyalynne, unfortunately all scan apartments are now closed for the weekend even though I've been trying since 3pm! Sigh..
If anything, this unfortunately forces me to go to A&E, possibly. Which is what they want to avoid.

I've also had to advised that special person who is meant to be staying on the 24th for a few days, that I am quite poorly and MAY have to cancel or postpone which is not ideal at all.
If over weekend you worsen or feel unable to cope a visit to A&E might not be a bad idea - you are obviously very distressed.
Thanks for the feedback, the advice seems reasonable.
I am not sure who needs the reassurance, you or some ABer's.

Sqd, what are "ABers"?!

Oh, the penny has dropped.. answer bankers! Sorry, I blame the tablets and lack of food, possibly water-logged too!
In my experience, the doctor books a scan not you.

I dont know if you read my post at 14.12pm Lisa, it seems you didnt, but you are getting yourself into a bit of a flap (sorry), and to say you want to cancel your friends visit on the 24th, seems a bit ott, as it could all be cured by then.

If the Doc thought it was serious, he would have done more.

Whats the problem with the Trimethoprim your taking, they have been ok for me

Trt,
They are causing me awful nausea to the point where I have to take an anti sickness tablet, foul taste in my mouth and a horrible smell in my nose, loss of appetite and I now have the runs.
I guess they affect everyone differently. In my opening post I did say I can't tolerate a normal dose of antibiotics as my body just can't cope with it.
