weeny teeny flies that seem to gravitate to fruit, especially soft fruits like nectarines, peaches. Not sure they are fruit flies but they are a bloody pest.
how to get rid if the fruit is left in the open.

i thought of leaving the peaches/nectarines in the fridge but think that this will mean these flies will just gravitate there.
The most likely are fruit flies, although perhaps you are faced with something different and smaller. No flies are likely to infest a refrigerator due to the low temperature, they will become unconscious and inactive even if one or two should go there. However, the fruit will not taste as good from the fridge unless allowed to reach room temperature for some hours..... Under no circumstances should bananas be stored in a refrigerator as this will ruin them, unless you like bland and dying/dead bananas.

i have been buying these soft fruits like peaches, but if they go a little soft i get these tiny flies swarming around, how to get rid of them.
In fact, once bananas are ripe enough for your taste, storing in the refrigerator will prevent them from over-ripening and they will last a lot longer (the skins will darken but the fruit will remain fine).
However, unripe bananas should not be kept there as they will fail to ripen at all.
Question Author
don't like bananas much, so rarely buy them,
Fruit flies like a banana, but time flies like an arrow.....
Sorry!
I bought a pack of three of those funny extendable net covers in Poundland. They look quite twee but it has certainly solved the problem of fruit flies, and when I have something cooling before it goes in the fridge, I pop one of these on top.
Keeps it safe from bluebottles etc.
I use food covers all the time this weather jenny. Keep stuff in the fridge until a while before it is to be eaten then pop it under a cover to get to room temperature. Especially use a glass one over the cat's food which also stops it smelling.
