I've just realised in the wake of the election 'understanding' that the DUP and Conservatives can't possible function as a Government because of EVEL. The reality is that the English Tories cannot legally rely on either the Scots conservatives and certainly not the DUP which leaves them unable to command a majority in the house of commons and thus unable to form a government surely?

What's EVEL?
English Votes for English Laws.

The English votes for English Laws legislation- to stop the Scots muddying the waters in the wake of their devolved Govt- introduced by Cameron :)
I'm not sure, though, if that's actually a problem. Presumably the point is that the DUP can't vote on English legislation, but then they already couldn't, so that removes those MPs from EVEl-related matters. Ditto the Scottish, and what's left is a "majority" of Tory MPs in England, no?
Just don't pass try to pass any laws that only apply to England. :))
Haha Kval you sound like you are "twisting in the wind". Bless.

//All laws passed at Westminster will, in theory, continue to have the backing of the majority of MPs, just as they do now.
But an extra stage will be introduced in the middle of the law-making process, allowing English MPs to block anything they don't like the look of in bills deemed to be "England only".//

Just the first step in setting up the English national party. :))
The Scottish Conservative leader, lesbian Ruth Davidson, does not seem happy with the pact with the anti-gay Unionists, and is saying so.

There could be trouble ahead.

Haha, the cup of victory dashed from your lips. :))

''Just the first step in setting up the English national party. :))'' - and we all know how riotously successful those have been historically in England. Can't wait.

There are 533 MPs representing English constituencies meaning a majority would be 267. The Tories have 297 seats in England so they will have no problem with EVEL.
Looks like we are to have the "Gaytory Scottish party then, if Ruth Davison does indeed have the "backing" of the other Scottish Tory MPs.
not sure what advantage there would be in the Tories teaming up with an American motor cycle stunt rider?
hi Mushie
did you read the letter in Nature about mesolithic culture and early H Sapiens. Skulls found at Irhoud in 1962

and yes I think the conservatives will have problems with EVEL
have a day off! if it effects the DUP then it effects SNP/PC too, so EVEL makes no difference on those votes. Didn't think it through did you? Oh dear!
Thought EVEL was a recent convention, not a law. In which case it can be ignored if politically inconvenient.
What a load of C.R.A.P.
