Good Goalie . . . with a cave the week before and a tunnel last week, will the puzzler be getting into or out of another hole tomorrow or will we be back to the more usual format?

Ha, well my guess (with just over an hour to wait) is an island, with maybe a pier or lighthouse thrown in....
Flon, you might also be interested in this competition the Daily Mail are running for the next four weeks:

GG . . . thanks so much for the link. I shall have a look at it a bit later on today.

If not places pillaged and plundered by the Romans - the puzzler's second favourites appear to be those sacked and burned by the Danes, although in this week's challenge, the town appears to have razed on a second occasion within a short space of time. Maybe it was something the locals said? In response to the comment that it may have been searing hot on the day of the visit to the priory, I would suggest it would also been a tad warm on that day in 1004 when the fires were lit.

I remember that when I was about 11 years old, the schoool organised a trip to the ancient monument(s) so, fortunately, I did not need to do any further "research" beyond the clue given.

My suggestion as to what would feature this week was a bit of a punt and I had half thought it might be a "treasure trail" although NCF tends to be a partner on such ventures. I did think that maybe NCF is being rested after the erroneous diversion via Capel Glwadys on the way to the Chartist Cave. Athough, they would (or should) have found the Roman Earthworks that were close by . . .

Maybe,as you intimate, we return to the salt air next time?
