I think you'd need a lawyer who specialises to answer that fully, but on the whole they don't have a good reputation do they?

Is there any law anywhere that designates the size of prison cells?
//UK judges say the cramped conditions contravene rulings from the European Court of Human Rights.
The court insists prisoners must ordinarily be allowed ‘personal space’ of around three metres squared.
The Romanians face spending all or most of their sentence housed in a space of two metres squared.//
Without knowing the details, my guess would be that countries that have more catching up to do on standards generally will get longer to complete the process, the aim being for all countries ultimately to reach a similarly advanced/unified state. This would apply to countries such as Romania and...........the UK, except that the UK will now wheel off and retain its low standards where it chooses/refuses, as is its right and was foreseen in the treaties.

I don't know, but if it is against certain laws to imprison criminals in small cells, then it is about time it was made unlawful to have them.
After reading the last paragraph of the article, OI fail to see how the judges came to their decision.
They should be locked up.
....and I bet they don't have prayer facilities, savages!
if it was not cell size it would be something else, food portion size lack of ammenities playstations tv's

I have noticed that you use the word savages from time to time.

I remember many moons ago, when that word was taboo on AB. at least it was when I dared to use it to describe some very savage none white criminals.
Ah the joys of being in the EU.

Romanians come here to avoid being sent to prion in Romania for violent burglary.

They commit crimes here but we cant send them back to Romania as their cells are too small.

So we are now stuck with having to pay the cost of keeping them in prison.

When they get out they will probably go to court here and say they have to stay in the UK as there are not enough rich people to rob from in Romania.

And they will probably get legal aid for that case was well.

Seems we bend over more and more to help the criminals.
Guilbert53, thats the human rights act and the liberals for you, no expense spared
Why not just stick them on the next flight to Bucharest, no ifs, no buts? Romania has signed up to ECHR so all prisoners in Romania are being held illegally (if this is true) and should be released forthwith.
They can't be sent back to Romania in case they won't form an orderly cu.
can we not charge romania for their upkeep and all legal costs they have incurred, if you think about it the eu club are supposed to share in all things? seems the uk shares more than anyone in the club let alone the world, nhs being abused by non payers then flying off after treatment, illegals not deported criminal or otherwise, seems like a giant legal ripoff the taxpayers, the rich seem immune to it all as they do not use public services, but governments let it all slide till were a broken society financially..but they can fly off to sunnier climes...
Space is obviously at a premium in Romania.

There must have been legal challenges of this sort domestically?
At first I thought AOG had posted something where colour wasn't part of the OP or couldn't be, in any way, brought into the thread. But then I read 'none white criminals'. And God was in his heaven and all was right with the world.

Since Romania Is In The Eu, Why Aren't They Taken To Court For Having Small Prison Cells?
