sorry, no other word to describe it.
Bent down to put Mr Alba's stuff in his back-pack, as I've done for a long, long time and on bending down, from the waist to drop the stuff in, huge pain shot right across my back, at the waist.
Have tried a hot water bottle, but still sore.
Walking is painful, just hope it eases off.
Don't want to see doctor.

Any ideas other than hot water bottle please?

Pain killers?
Hot bath?
Question Author
am already on them for my legs Danny, will have to tell them to divert to the back :-D

(loathe painkillers, doc prescribed me some which have a side effect so another tablet prescribed for that, oh, the joys of being over 21 lol)
Voltaron is very good
You say that you don't want to see a doctor, but if it is no better in a couple of days I would rethink that.In the meantime I would continue with the hot water bottle treatment. I occasionally get spasms in my back and that works for me.
Question Author
oooh, Margo, thanks, got a tube of that (somewhere)

Can't get out a bath these days ummm :-(
Can get it, can't get out!
Question Author
Danny, sorry to hear you have back problems.
It's no fun is it?

Hate bothering the Doc cos I always think there's folk worse off than me.
Tiger Balm is also very good but it smells horrible, use at night! It's in a tiny pot - clears the nasal passages a treat too :-))
I'll go with Margo, Voltarol Gel works for me
i would take paracetamol and ibuprofen ......
Any time Captain :-))
Alternate ice/hot packs...that may help.
Question Author
Don't have Tiger Balm (she types gratefully lol)

Thank you Cap'n and Dr Petersqad :-D xx

in fact, thank you each for your suggestions, much appreciated xx
Lay flat for as much as possible, Ibuprofen if you can take it, and ice rather than heat as it is an acute injury
Lots of good advice given, so I'll wish you better soon but you must promise - no more bending from the waist.x
I thought it was ice for the first 24 hours or so to keep the damage to a minimum, then switch to heat to help healing.

I agree that you should take anti inflammatory medicine too, once again to keep the damage to a minimum.
Hot bath......ibuprofen 400mgs every 6 hours if necessary and gentle exercise....the pain is almost always due to muscle spasm.
Hot or cold?.....doesn't matter one jot.......whatever gives you relief.
You haven't mentioned any radiation of the pain down one or other leg, so I think it is safe to say that it is not a lumbar disc problem.
May take at least 10 days to settle down.

Thank you all kindly for advice.

Feeling much better today, slapped voltarol on last night before bed.
