Is there anyone here who would describe themselves as a misanthrope?
As time goes on (I'm now 51) I find myself becoming more reclusive and happier to be alone...apart from a few close friends and associates.
I'm convinced that most of mankind is warped, petty, selfish etc. I cant stand to be around most of my family with their petty squabbles, I cant stand to be around most of my local society with its ridiculous ideas and opinions. Even here on AB some people are so opinionated as to make me puke. I'm not even excusing myself here as I see these 'qualities' within myself.

Maybe its just me....Maybe not!

No, far from it. Although I'm not overly sociable and like being at home.

We go away 2 -3 times a year so I get my socialising out the way.
No, not in the least! I may sometimes questions others behaviour and opinions but they are entitled to behave and opine as they wish, preferably within the realms of the law though.

I'm very much a people person be it family or friends.

I do avoid those who seem to do nothing but moan as far as possible and am equally happy in my own company.
Wouldn't call myself a misanthrope Nails, but as I got older and wiser I have become more critical of stupidity, tend to scoff at pomposity, and sarcastic in the presence of ignorance. Nothing wrong with your own company my mate, especially if it is more palatable than being forced to endure the malcontent and malicious. Be careful not to be reclusive though, plenty of people to engage with if only for a few hours when you are out and about. Avoid at all cost the Pollyannas and the snowflakes in equal measure.
Not at all . I generally look for the good in people and usually see just that. On the rare occasion I don't, I find it easy to turn my back and walk away without feeling hurt or let down.
On occasion. I get days where the whole human race looks ugly...both in looks and behaviour. I suppose the environment I work in doesn't help. But these days are balanced by constant reminders that people *can* be good, loving and kind.

Spent the entire day with my own company and loved it Togo.
Read a bit, a bit of time on the internet, a couple of phone calls etc.

Thanks to others for replies as well.
Definitely not - but I choose my friends.
I enjoy time on my own to a degree mostly. Thinking about it, I haven't had time on my own for a while, I'd enjoy that, not too much though.
To be quite honest, I must be very fortunate but the majority of people I have met in business and socially, have been pleasant and agreeable. I am very lucky with my family, well except for my sister who we won't mention, are wonderful. Well my SIL is a ***.
I have a couple of good friends I'm very happy to spend time with, but on the whole, yes, I do prefer my own company and that of my little dog !
