My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Morning all. We should pur mousey in the the dogs woofy as she's up and down all night. Worse than having a baby!! And now we are inundated with ants if there is any trace of cat food, which of course there is as she has to have some in the night!!!
Just relaxing before we are off put for lunch. Had a welcomed quiet night at home last night.
I couldn't find any cricket !!
Watched The Jacksons at Glasto but sound was terrible couldn't really hear them. Not impressed.
Have been sorting again today.....yet another bag of rubbish going out the door. I really wonder at the stuff I chose to keep
Good afternoon each and every. We went with friend to a lovely tree shaded bar at the side of a beach and had the most delicious meal. We picked at mixed meat grill! Mixed fish! Tortilla (2) real chips, mixed salad and copious amounts to of wine and beer. Lovely day. Was home for 5 mins when my bro phoned from Canada as it would have been mum's 99th birthday so he was ringing everyone. Had a lovely catch up. Had a swim , and now in air cooled bedroom with manky Mousey!
Hello all
It's a cool grey day here.
Glasto was rubbish this year Neti .I watched bits here and there but there was nobody that I really like .
You are very naughty Robinia .....now just for that you can sit and watch a silent film called Sparrers can't Sing filmed in the garden yesterday.

Hope you're all ok.

open gardens day here locally and eventually (an hour ago) the sun came out for it. There really are some gorgeous gardens hereabouts.
I enjoyed Barry Gibb at glasto. Was bopping around the bedroom and singing in falsetto. I know how to live!!

anyone know what the New York Times effect on man is supposed to be? I've always wondered.

thanks, woofy ... nothing at all then, since New York Magazine has nothing to do with the New York Times. But so what, the article was supposed to be an expose of the club scene but the writer (an English journalist) later admitted he just made it all up.

I'll have to file it away with Chickalingbone come with me down to Nashville Tennessee and Someone left the cake out in the rain.
Morning-ish.... milder and the sun's just appeared.
Haha, love those sparrers shaney. They might not sing but they play some mean jazz...or are you a one woman band? Now we know how you fund your handbag habit :)

The last time I watched Glasto was Palaver Faith a couple of years ago, I love her.
My mum tried to explain the meaning of MacArthur Park lyrics to me once. I think she'd been spiking her own Wincarnis.
Lol..I didn't realise he'd added music to it. Picky came to cut the grass and filmed it on his camera which has a huge zoom lens along with other bells and whistles.Since Saturday all the seed and fat balls are gone ,greedy little monkeys. They'll get no more until they finish the peanuts :)
It's lovely here today but I think it's going to change tomorrow and we're getting rain and storms.
I'm off out shortly with my bro to visit our old friend the bionic woman.
Hope you're all well.
I love MacArthur's Park. I seem to understand it. It was my life in the 60/70's. That sweet green icing flowing down, oh yes indeed. What a mess up!!
What a dia horribilis this is. Hija's flight from barca was overbooked so she's been off loaded with compensation, but still annoying. Mr N has come home in a filthy mood and put himself to bed so innocent little me is getting all the flack for doing no reason. I've been shouted at. And no idea why. Fed up.
And now a friend has collapsed and died in the street. He was 68 yrs and on a diet. Guess the heat got to him.

oh dear, neti, that's awful. Dead friend, I mean, not so much grumpy hubby.
Good moaning. Dare I venture into another day?
morning all. Neti I hope you have a better day today. Its snoozy weather here with a forecast of thunder overnight so I am making the most of the cool peaceful weather now to catch up on kip.
Hello all
Cool and dull .Thunderstorms promised.
That's very sad for you Neti. You're not alone with a grumpy husband though. The air is hot and has been all colours of the rainbow here, mainly blue ..lol.Mr S is not very pleased that he has to go on a list and also has pay for the privilege of going on it.
Have a nice kip Woofy.
Well Mr N apologised which in itself is a miracle..Hija's finally landed. And there's cloud cover so not so got but still humid.
My poor friend's body had to lay on the pavement for two hours until a judge (only one on the island) came and certified a natural death . The poor wife was just standing there stunned.
We are off to celebrate our goddaughter's birthday as they are over here for another week. Will have a siesta in minute as didn't sleep well last night and scared myself with the thought of snakes getting in the room!!
