Something I said?
She does sing - 'Still waters run deep', just listened to the link.
It was 1971. I remember it well, I was a young man, just turned 22. I also remember look before you leap, still waters run deep, as being part of the lyrics.
Thank you Mamy . . I was beginning to think it was me . . .

for 237SJ it was late eighties , when I replied i.e. 20:37
Late 80s filo ska. It was 1971/72. Maybe you are thinking of a late 80s sample by Konkani or similar name
Fionska. konkan. Autocorrect is struggling
The reason that I know it was 1971 is because in that year I was sent on detachment to RAF Thorney Island in Hants while it was riding high in the charts and played on the radio every day. The other song I remember from the same time is Bridget the Midget by Ray Davies.

It is the song about Rose Garden by Loretta Lynn - this song has 'still water run deep' lyrics - so may be the song I am referring (unless there is another one). Any more suggestions?
No . . . FF . . . my reply was in response to 237SJ deriving "best answer" for . . . was it early or late 70's? My reply with the full lyric was stated to be in the "late eighties" i.e. after 8:30 pm (i.e. 20:37) - I was being a bit obtuse - no offence intended . . .
Same song isn't it?
That is a cover version. The original was Lynn Anderson in 1971 - deffo.
Noted Fionska.
There was a 1988 version of sorts..

"Lynn Rene Anderson (September 26, 1947 – July 30, 2015) was an American country music singer known for a string of hits throughout the late 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, most notably her 1970 worldwide megahit "(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden."

The date given is 1970 so it must have taken a while to cross the Atlantic.
Released 1970. Hit in uk in Feb 71

"Rose Garden" (also known and covered as "(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden") is a song written by Joe South.

It is best known as recorded by country music singer Lynn Anderson, and first released by Billy Joe Royal in 1967.

Lynn's October 1970 release topped the U.S. Billboard country chart for five weeks, reached No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart.

The song was also a major pop hit internationally, topping the charts in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, and Norway, and reaching the top three in the UK and South Africa.

Anderson's version of "Rose Garden" remains one of the most successful country crossover recordings of all-time.

Several other male vocalists recorded it on albums including Freddy Weller, Billy Joe Royal, and Dobie Gray and Third Avenue Blues Band, but it was never a hit until Anderson's version.

A recording by the The Three Degrees, best known for their 1974 hit "When Will I See You Again", also pre-dated Lynn Anderson's hit version.

It is believed that Loretta Lynn released a "cover" version in 1971 as did many others:-
