Eileen...it's up to you. Do you want your health, or do you want sweet stuff? The most likely reason your blood sugar is out of control is because of choices you make.
I'm not a diabetic, but I do preach low carb.

I know several diabetics who have brought their blood sugar levels down to normal or near by dietary changes. You don't have to be extreme, but you do need to be careful. Its certainly worth trying. Good luck.
