Had a wee chuckle to myself today. Met a former work colleague outside Aldi. Said she shopped there as it was much cheaper than Asda, Tesco etc etc. She then jumped into a taxi to take her home. Is it me?

I have a friend who shops regularly at Aldi and he says the difference between that store and the others is quite often the return taxi fare.
If it was a good sized shop she'd still be quids in Maggie.
How would she normally get her shopping home? If she takes public transport then maybe it's worth it to her to have a cab to her door...so saving on groceries allows her this little luxury.
Would she have had to hire a taxi to get to the other stores?
I think that the days when people shopped in Aldi/Lidl because they were cheaper are largely over.

I shop in my local Lidl, mainly because I like the range of stuff....lovely Brie for less than a pound, delicious smoked ham and wonderful yogurt, etc.
Yes was talking to someone who mentioned that the price of food was getting worse .Then promptly open up a packet of ciggies at over a tenner a packet .Loved me ciggies but now a luxury I can't afford .
My father drove miles to get slightly cheaper petrol.

Ha ha, thanks for all your responses. Yip, I suppose that even with the taxi fare the shopping might be less than at a large supermarket. Mikey, I too shop at my local Lidl.. they have some great half price offers this weekend!!
Maggie....that Cotes du Rhone is back again....£2:99 instead of £3:99 !
I had to laugh when I met a rather toffee nosed neighbour in Lidle, she said she only came in to look, she had a massive trolley full of stuff, I don't suppose she put it all back before she left, she was mortified that I had seen her.
Does your former work colleague also run a car? If not, getting a taxi might make economic sense.
