was under the impression that they don't use them in the USA over a few floors.

Emmie....that is my understanding as well, so perhaps the Enquiry needs to examine why Kensington Council decided to use this type of cladding on such a high building.

That and why sprinklers were not installed of course.
indeed,
our building has cladding which was meant to insulate, not sure whether to me concerned or not, especially now they have installed new gas pipes on the outside of the building.......
Question Author
Emmie....do you have sprinklers ?

It has been said, many time over the last few days, that nobody has lost their lives in a building fire, where sprinklers have been installed.

Makes perfect common sense to me.
i don't live in a tower block but we are four floors with no sprinklers.. worse is that some of the tenants have no problem with dumping their rubbish, including mattresses on their balconies, incl cig ends.
i have reported them to the council by the way, nothing as yet..

Emmie....very worrying !

I would keep a bucket of water handy on your balcony if I were you.
to chuck over the neighbours presumably.
Question Author
Only if they are on fire Emmie !

But its a serious suggestion.
i know..
well Nize been saying that all week ( illegal building materials) but that doesnt of course make it correct

Hammond says it was ( unlawful )
and the building company has said - no of course it wasnt chrissakes be serious

so in this world of alternative facts and distrust of experts which goes with it - we dont at present know.....

[I still find it incredible
but as a relation who is a housing association worker said
"the council [West Ken] owns the housing association and had no business at all in holding up their hands and saying nothing to do with us. Completely to do with them"
From Bookbinders Link above from the Guardian.

The Reynobond cladding applied to the Grenfell tower last year as part of a £10m refurbishment ## is made from powder-coated aluminium The Reynobond cladding applied to the Grenfell tower last year as part of a £10m refurbishment is made from powder-coated aluminium panels that are usually filled with plastic insulation, which is flammable.

## Panels are made from powder-coated aluminium that are usually filled with plastic insulation, '''''''which is flammable'''''''.

What doesn't seem to have been mentioned here is the method of installation of the panels.

It's possible that some types of panel might be perfectly safe when fixed directly to the the walls of a building but (because it creates a void behind them) lethal when attached to the walls with battens.
Peter Pedant, //well Nize been saying that all week ( illegal building materials) but that doesnt of course make it correct//

‘Nize’? I do hope you’re not referring to me. If you are, you’re making it up again. I have no idea whether this material is banned or illegal, and I’ve not suggested it is.
Quite Buenchico, which is why we need to wait for a proper investigation before leaping to conclusions.
