/// Student unions now ban any instances of what they call 'cultural appropriation' – in which white people adopt clothes or customs of different cultures. ///

It seems that Chu Chin Chow and Ali Baba and the 40 thieves, are a no, no then?

The expression 'cultural appropriation' is only used by people with too much time on their hands, who confuse issues worth fighting over with those which are not actually issues at all, but nonsense dreamed up by people with too much time on their hands.

An unfortunate coupling of too much time combined with a misappropriated sense of what culture actually is, tends to reach its zenith in the minds of students and left-wing politicians.
What a load of luvvies
'before the days of vast multiculturalism'

In other words 'before we learned how much our stereotyping of other races offended them.

Jeez I'll be glad when such anachronistic opinions have disappeared.

The 'typical' Englishman has been stereotyped throughout the World.

Ask the ordinary person in Africa or India for example, and they would not see what all the fuss is about.

It is mainly only those such as yourself who like to be offended on behalf of others, that seem to be bothered.
Only you in your tiny 1950s little bubble would think that AOG. You offer no evidence. Only your view of the world which has been proven to be twisted. You've previously admitted you wouldn't live next door to a black person so how would you know how they feel? An octogenarian commenting on behalf of all foreigners. Wow. You just amaze me sometimes.
There is no such thing as cultural appropriation in a multi cultural society.

Sharing cultural aspects of our selves is part and parcel of growing as a nation and people. We take from others we see as pleasing and, because everyone sees different things as pleaseing lots of things get into the mix.

Otherwise segregation and enclaves will flourish. Them and us flourish.
