Our grandsons wife has asked us to contribute something for our two great granddaughters memory box, they are three and one atm. Our daughter is doing a family tree for them, we don't see very much of them as they live away and we certainly won't be around when they reach 18 :0( . The parents will be putting all the usual mementos in so am a bit stumped as to what we can give. I did think about those The day you were born things or a newspaper but think they might get more than one of that kind of thing so would be grateful for any ideas please. I think she has asked quite a number of people to contribute.

A photo of you holding them?

I'm unclear about memory boxes, seems to be a recent thing. I do think I would appreciate a photo of me with my grandparents, I only met one of them.
photos of when you were young ,favourite recipes ,lock of hair ,
Girls love jewellery. Have you any girlie jewels to spare?
As per the other suggestions, I always wanted to know more about my ancestors so maybe a letter to each saying hello and telling them about yourself so they'll have some more idea of where they stemmed from. If you have pictures of your parents and grandparents then maybe copies of those with the names clearly labelled on the backs.
A small photo book would be nice, there are companies online who can make them, if you have a selection of photos of yourselves, when you were young (and at 18 if you have one), wedding day, and you with the girls etc...
Are there any stories that you could tell them, especially things you wouldn't have told them as younger children? Things you could tell them now that they are 18? A story of how you met would be nice. Maybe there could be stories accompanying photos.

Thank you all for being so helpful, looks like pics it is, I do have some jewellery tambourine but also have two other granddaughters and another two greats, both girls, so may be be a little 'thin on the ground'. Yes I do have lots of pics, (including some of us holding our card from the Queen, for our 60th wedding anniversary!) I like the idea of a small album too Eve so will try to find out more about that
Something you could give to all your grandchildren is a silver locket on a chain with a photo in it and as you would need to do something similar for any boys you could leave a similarly priced St Christopher with little message engraved on it
Stories about their parents and grandparents that maybe only you remember or know?

Yes I have decided that I will do the small photo book together with a letter with some little stories, only thing I will have to get my thinking cap on as I will need them to be different, altho' they will be opened two years apart, but I will have to do two more for the other greats who are 5 and 7, dare'nt leave anyone out. Necklaces would be a lot easier but pics and letters will be more personal. Thank you all for your suggestions, much appreciated X
