That might be your only reason, OG.
The only reason that the water industry was privatised was that it was failing badly enough to want to get rid. It was massively in debt with infrastructure that needed almost totally replacing. I am not against public-run services in principle, just aware that they are rarely if ever run efficiently.

Inn principle I'm for the Government owning water, sewage, electric, gas and the rail. The problem is Nationalisng such industries leads to them being very inefficient and we end up paying more.
Dividends may be being paid Mickey, but being private keeps costs down so the net cost to us the tax payer is probably less than if Nationalised with strikes, ransom, sill wages and poor management.

Apart from the fact probably the majority of people own some of these utilities via pensions it wrecks investment coming into the country, breeds resentment and leads to civil unrest. Marxism does not work.

Corbyn gets a lot of stick on here, as I do, day in, day out. I am not remotely surprised by that of course, as AB is overwhelmingly right wing, as your straw Polls have shown in the past.

(i) the so-called water industry industry was pishing it away back in the 80s and 90s and before - I nearly went for a director's job back in the 90s and the stats on losses from the UK Water Assoc (off Bird Cage Walk) were staggering back then.
(ii) - Jerry, what's all of this going to cost? The highest tax in the G20 and not just the rich as they can't fund all of the billions that you are looking for.

Whether it's private or nationalised it seems ludicrous to me to have different companies selling what is essentially an identical product. Is Severn Trent water any better than Thames? Is British Gas electricity and bettrr than npower? And yet, in the case of electicity at least it is apparently our own fault if we pay too much as we should be spending half our lives looking for better deals, 'shopping around' for identical goods merely on price grounds. The price should be uniform if the product is identical.
there's more to price in the utility industry....albeit price is an important factor - throw in the company that gets your meter reads reasonably right when estimating, gets your billing right, and then things like auto-metering, mixing in solar and alternatives, (even wind), house muffling as to energy loss...and shall I continue.....
