Planned on making the legendary ragu.

Went shopping, forgot to pick up a head of celery.

Get home to find the beef and pork mince were actually beef and lamb mince.

It has been bubbling gently for three hours and the difference is noticeable.

I wouldn't mind but I have made a vat of the stuff and it's not up to scratch.

I will take myself away and kick my ass :-(

Oh poor girl., cant you find a volunteer(or victim) to help you eat it all? i had to laugh at your description "Ive made a vat of the stuff" as when I used to have my big preserving pan on my stove with something similar bubbling away it was known as "Mums cauldron!"

Hmmm, Ethandron just walked into a slap! ;-)

In fairness it tastes OK but is missing the sweetness of the pork and that slight bitterness of celery.

We'll cope, some how, it will be difficult though, sniff....
Have you got any celery salt lurking in your cupboard that you can add for the celery flavour? Just a thought!
I'll have it if you don't want it ;)
Could you have converted it into a moussaka or a pastisio?
