Oh, they do. Absolutely they do. They are the uber-liberals, in whose world everything is permissible, everyone is essentially good and morally upstanding and anyone who claims the opposite is a horrible regressive individual.
The problem with that world-view is that at some point reality comes crashing in and they get an almighty reality check. The harsh reality is that some people are truly evil. You can argue until the cows come home as to why they are evil but the fact remains that they are. I believe that some people are born evil (in so far as they are mentally wired up with a desire to inflict violence upon others) and that some people are made evil. Religion is a tremendously effective way to make an otherwise good person evil.

Indeed 'some' would try and tip that particular claim on its head and many have attempted to do so. The fact is that some non-religious individuals have committed appalling atrocities because they are evil people. They are not evil *because* they are non-religious; they are evil people because their brains are wired up that way. A lack of religion does not an evil person make.
However, good and moral religious people who are driven by their particular scriptural doctrines can be made to do completely immoral and evil deeds as a direct result of their religious teachings.
This argument is aptly summed up in Steven Weinberg's quote, “Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.”.

"I wonder if she can speak coherently and articulately without the aid of an auto-cue? Her husband certainly couldn't. He was hopeless. A mumbling, stumbling, shambolic speaker if ever I heard one. "
Pardon??
The one soundbite I heard from her husband recently though hit the nail on the head re US politics: gerrymandering by both parties has polarised and stagnated the political process. Neither side relates to or engages with the other as they don't need to. So the Obamas have their finger on the pulse and I hope, and am sure, both will continue to contribute to politics etc in a positive way in future. Not sure the presidency is the way to go for Michelle though.

Didn't Michelle get a $200,000+ job in a university or local government after hubbie was elected? Since left job. Job not replaced. So not that important in the first place.
But "shrewd"? Yes, Birdie. Didn't do herself any disfavours. Give the woman some credit.
On the other hand, while Michelle has done rather well out of her husband's presidency, the rape victims of Boko Haram have benefited not a jot from her "principled" stance when she created #GiveUsOurGirlsBack.
Girls are raped, but the Michelles (a wide-spread community of pious hypocrites) are able to sleep comfortably in their beds.
