I passed a hard stool over 2 months ago, and had immediate bleeding. I guess it's a fissure cos now whenever I go, it is absolute agony, and the tear (I think) is being re-opened all the time. I went to the loo early this morning and am still in agony from going. I have some uni-roid ointment which I've just started using (no help yet) and lactulose which hasn't made much of a difference. I wondered whether anyone else has had this, and what they did to make it go away, as I'm climbing the walls!

I take it you have seen your GP?

They are very painful indeed - increase your fluid levels to keep hydrated and if the prescribed medications aren't working then make another appointment.

I do feel for you.
as Mamya says, liquids to soften the stools and get your GP to have a look.

I saw my GP for other things and mentioned this at the end as we were out of time. So she prescribed me the ointment and some laxatives which I haven't taken yet as I was hoping the lactulose would help (as I have ulcerative colitis I have to be a bit careful). But I am definitely going to get her to have a look as soon as possible!!
Uniroid? you need Uniroid HC, if you haven't already used it.
Yes it does sound like a fissure.
Give it another week with Uniroid HC three times daily and if no improvement see your GP to exclude piles.
If you have not already done so, make an appointment to talk to your GP about this problem.
Apply the ointment prior to a bowel movement .
Question Author
Apply prior to a bowel movement- is that to avoid poo going into the wound and making it worse? I am also feeling hot and exhausted and breathless - actually similar to how I feel when my colitis is bad. Is it linked I wonder, the fissure, with feeling generally wiped out and ill?
hi scarlett going thro same problem for last 3 months piles and anal fissure doc has tried every cream known to man have been referred
to hospital another 3 months to wait the only thing that helps me is a cold bath and /or lmx cream its a local anasthetic cream it gives me some relief from itching if you have to pay for it, you can also get it of web. good luck keep us informed of your progress

Sorry to hear that fraserstuart, I think piles cab be helped with lots of water/high fibre diet and I have heard AMAZING things about putting vitamin E directly onto the area. Fissure is harder though as it is a rip which has to heal, so I will definitely keep you up to date with what transpires.
Scarlett, have you thought about calling your IBD nurse for some advice, given that you have ulcerative colitis? That'd be my first port of call.
Question Author
I don't have an IBD nurse and was turned away at my last colonoscopy as my results were so clear/normal last time! I'm fairly sure this was caused by a hard stool rather than IBD.
