My 1 year old labrador is a very fussy eater, he was originally on an expensive top of the market dry complete food which he stopped eating, so we tried him with canned meat and kibble mixer which he is starting to get sick of.

A work colleague said to try a raw meat diet for him.

I'm looking for some advice regarding this, would people recommend this, is it just a case of feeding him the meat or should i be adding other things into his meals?

TIA

No its not just a case of feeding him the meat. If you make up the diet yourself you need to learn what dogs need and how much, but there are many companies who now sell frozen raw diet, you just thaw and feed. Having said that, that’s the first time I have EVER heard of a lab being a fussy eater. I would advise a health check if you haven’t done this already it maybe that he has got some kind of stomach or digestion problem, or at his age, it might be a mouth/tooth issue making eating painful. Vet first I suggest!

He's always been a slow eater, he's had a number of check ups by my vet and everything is fine.

Although I feed primarily kibble/tinned meat, I do also feed raw on occasions - I use chicken wings from Sainsbury's as they are in convenient packs and the dogs love them. My small breed have a couple each and my GSD gets between one and two packs depending on size. Its a good way of starting them off on raw. There are loads of sites on raw food particularly on facebook but beware some of them are worse than Jehovah's Witnesses for wanting to doctrinate you into their way of thinking. Don't be bullied, feed what you feel is right but as woofgang says do your homework if going over to a completely raw diet.

Thanks for your comments, i've read many different sites and blogs about it and they've all pretty much said something different.
If you want a raw (frozen) diet that is top quality, try either or both of Nutriment or Natural Instinct both of which get top marks in the All About dog food chart. It has everything you need in it for a healthy dog. No more windy dog and only tiny poos;-)
