my 4 year old has been at school since last september. She quickly stopped wearing socks and started wearing tights citing she "didnt want anyone to see my knickers". Now its going to be coming up to the time she cant really wear tights as it will be too hot, but shes still worried about the knickers thing. anyone have any suggestions? she does not want to wear trousers or culottes or shorts

I'm already bare-legged in sandals. In France I would have been in almost permanent shorts by now!

shorts under a dress wont be a problem - she can have them under her belly

thanks all, i discovered that sainsbury's sell cycle shorts type things with their school uniform range
I don't know if it's of any interest to you but Asda are now doing school uniform summer playsuit things (top with shorts attached in gingham).

i worry she wont be able to get dressed after she has a wee!
My granddaughter wears shorts under her skirts.
If she's happy in tights, let her wear them until she complains about being too hot - then tell her she has a choice between tights and knickers on show. This is ridiculous and disturbing behaviour from a 4 year old - please don't pander to her.

eh? sorry diddly, but i am not of the "children should be seen and not heard" school of thought. My daughter is a person. I dont see how her having input into what she wants to wear to school (within the uniform) is "pandering"
quite right, bednobs, bring her up to discuss things, by far the best way
