Yesterday I received an email from a Paralegal at the General Medical Council. Regarding a Doctors fitness to practice.

The email contained a landline number - Manchester - I've rang it but owing to Bank Holiday today no answer. I also emailed back asking if this is for real or some sort of joke. All my GP's are brilliant if it's some other Dr then I doubt I can help as I see so many I can't keep up.

I researched all I could to see if this is real. It all checks out but I still can't help but be a tiny bit skeptical about it.

I have called the GMC office in Edinburgh but I need to call back tomorrow.

I know scammers can be excellent but everything I looked up checks out - cannot find anything about the lady who sent it though.

Should I wait and see what I find out tomorrow or let it go?

I'd just wait until I can speak to someone in the office. If you think it's a scam, though, get the number from their website, not use the one on the letter.
if you don't know the doctor anyway I'd delete and forget
how did they get your email address? how are you adressed in the email?

Rocky...dad says I should call the switchboard and ask to be put through to this person. Which I agree with. But I agree with you.

Didn't mention the name. Minty..

I'd assume it was on my file bednobs. My surgery have my mobile and email. It was addressed Ms. Brown it was also addressed Private and Confidential to be opened by the addressee.
sounds strange, but I suppose if they're checking things like this then they need to ask patients. I'd wait till the office was open and try again - and as rocky says, don't use the number in the email if it's different from the official one.

But if you can clear a doctor's name then that would be a good result.
could be a hossie doc Queenie !

If it's a hospital doctor Minty then they are on a hiding to nothing. I see so many there I don't keep track of names.

Will do jno. The main office number is the same the only one that is different is the last four. But I will try go though the number online rather than than in the email.

I'll do what I can but if it's someone whom I have seen that I don't remember then I can't help.
It's a scam.
Ignore it.
agree with sqad mark it as spam delete it ..enjoy your easter x

Thanks Sqad.

I'll try Bernie...you too xx
Google may be your friend - put some relevant words in and see what you find
I'd have been on alert when I saw the misspelling of practise in the email, but if it is a scam I'm not sure what the aim is - unless you had to download some attachment which puts malware or similar on your computer
// It's a scam. Ignore it// sqad

[yes yes I have seen the follow up]

and sqad should know - but unfortunately doesnt ( or did but has forgotten) [ [ after all his collegio medical en Ethpanya doesnt do anything like this)

what has happened is 1) they have either been damned slow
or 2) there have been other issues and your complaint has been resuscitated ( was dead but made to come alive - resurrected) which they are allowed to do- indefinitely I think

one of a doctor's colleagues commented live at a GMC hearing: "if you want to know what happened on that evening - you shouldnt be asking me five years later"
and all the tribunal said was "o goody goody ! this make the doctor far easier to strike off because we just believe the ones who can ! (remember) [=complainant/s]

Dr Hannah Ryan who was the young junior tired doctor who wrote down the wrong temp in the Ebola Nurse Mcafferty ( acquitted by the way) in Dec 2014 has just been suspended Mar 2017. Well there's justice for you !
Evidence offered that the false temp rdg had misled no one as no one read the card
Dobbed in by one Dr Paul Cosford head of PublicHealthEngland whose organisational mega cack up it really was.
(temp checked and McC allowed to continue by PHE staff when she should have been isolated). The continuer appeared against Dr Ryan.

so anyway - read your notes and tell the GMC what happened with your doctor - you can be sure his career is wrecked for at least another two years ( and four already )
