My GP has suddenly changed my med from 40mg Propranonol to 5mg Nebivolol with no explanation.. I have been taking Propranonol for anxiety and hbp for many years with no problems. Not sure about Nebivolol . Is it a money saving exercise or is it supposed to do something for me? Thanks for any help out there .

What did your Doctor say when you asked him/her this question ?
Question Author
When I asked why, The GP looked at me like I was a naughty child for asking silly questions.
You should change your GP!
Get another Doctor then Rally !
is my GP trying to kill me
is he really Shipman easterised ? ( resurrected in another body etc?)

Propanolol has been around for around 50y so at least we know how it works
Nebiv is a modern droog in the same class - once a day and is more tolerable ( I wasnt able to take the earlier version - propan and bisop so I just stopped taking them. Oops a simple resting pulse count identifies the defaulters ....)

so he isnt trying to kill you
he is moving you intothe 21 st century
no dont change your dr.
steek with her darlink ! * ( oops my zsa zsa gabor impression coming out there )

* zsa zsa - dear zsa zsa used to say - when you reach an age you larrk steek wizz eet darlink!

Thing about propran is that you take one dose
and you are steel beta blocked a week later ....

Your Dr is clearly a pharmacologist and NOT a primary school teacher and her look of exasperation was

" how many years pharma has he done - I bet the answer is zero"

and NOT
" god he doesnt look as tho he knows what 2+2 is"
she not he sozza

how do I know what your GP is thinking ?
I often feel like that myself ...
Well, you may be developing a mild degree of heart failure (swollen ankles) and Neviolol is more effect in that direction that Propanolol.
Both are beta -blockers, but Neviolol is much more expensive than Propanolol which means there is a clinical reason for change.
