I have been using 40watt, small screw, clear golf ball bulbs for my chandelier, but was wondering if the white type might be a bit brighter, what do you think?

I think you will find that the white type are a much more softer light, and not such a harsh light as the clear ones are.
1. Switch to LED bulbs for 10 watts you can have 60 watt equivalent thereby getting the greater brightness or 6 watts for your 40 watt saving money in either case
2. light is much cleaner and if you have daylight style you will get the rainbows from your chandelier drops.
3. easy to find Wilkos, B & Q etc and although more expensive to buy initially they last pretty much forever
rowanwitch has it right here....LED bulbs rule these days !

I have had good service over the years from his company :::

Thanks folks, have ordered, a bit more expensive, but they look as if they will last longer.
Surely any white coating will simply block some of the light and heat up ? I'd expect them to be dimmer not brighter.
OG...I think that these were what we used to call "pearl"...defused .
