It is the kind of jovial comment to make by either a male or a female.

/// The more I thought about it the more angry it made me. I've faced sexism my whole life in my own career and it's just not on.' ///

What makes some people so touchy, would a man have gone to the trouble of getting the press involved if after shopping at his local supermarket for cake icing products, and the assistant had said to him, "I hope you are going to get your wife to ice that cake for you"?

I completely agree with you. my question would be what sort of "News" paper thinks this is even interesting enough to give airspace
My postie called me 'mate' the other day, it really is getting silly.

I wouldn't know how to ice a cake, or bake a cake
So young and already in the offended camp - old fashioned comment is all it was.

Silly.
I think you bake it first wolf, then you "ice" it
Thanks steg, but at 53 I have admitted defeat in the cooking and baking and other 'girl stuff' area.
some shop assistants should restrict themselves to saying "Can I help you?" and omit the silly comments on customers' private lives and other things that are none of their business.

Are you sure this shouldn't be in News?
It's women like this who make it impossible for a bit of banter...

How will she cope when her husband dies.......I do most of my own DIY and have had comments about my husband doing the work when I'm buying materials........
Not long ago two policeman commented on the good condition my husband kept the car in..... it had just been cleaned by me.......:-)

It's not difficult to have a little banter back without making men feel uncomfortable.......silly woman......she'll never get a smooth finish on the plaster if she's so uptight and grumpy......x

What so you could come out with the usual snide comment:

"Is this news"?
I would have walked!

Mr Cake is exceptionally able in many aspects of DIY but some tasks I excel at.

If I had been met with such a condescending comment I would have struggled to bit my tongue.
I'd like to know what Mr, was doing whilst you got plastering ?
I guess she's going to have to buy supplies elsewhere now......no man is going to dare ask her if she needs help with the really heavy stuff.......x
Way too touchy, silly woman. I'd have laughed and said when I want a job done properly I do it myself.
I had a plumber once say to me 'I bet you don't know where your stop tap is?'
Yes, and I've already turned it off.
:)
personally i would have said actually i do the work myself,
I've never asked "Is this News?" If it's in newspapers, that's good enough for me. This just seemed like a typical enough thread from you and I wondered if you meant it to go in News like the rest.
I can think of far worse things to be 'fuming' about! The lad was just being friendly and making conversation ...
^ I agree. Some people are so touchy!! I'm of the opinion that the look on her face in that picture must be a permanent fixture.
// I think you bake it first wolf, then you "ice" it//

yeah dont put the uncooked dough ( or whatever its called ) in the oven with the icing already on
I know that much

o god - - - you have to switch the oven on beforehand too

as the plymouth people used to say in the seventies
what a stupid old bagger
not me - the girl in the story
yeah the only plastering I know
comes out of a bottle -f rom France usually
