To our letter of intent. Oh dear they immediately go into hard ball mode. Or is this a loose cannon just firing off in a fit of pique?

It's interesting how politics has developed a new approach over the last couple of years - as a result of the Scottish Independence Referendum, and Brexit. For generations, votes have been held, and then that's it, everyone gets on with it. But since the two items mentioned, there is a new approach - the vote is held, and then those who didn't like the result...

I think you are missing the point of my post, Togo. You haven’t had forty odd years of the in-at-all-costs brigade having their way.

Ever since we have been a part of the EU/EEC there have been sceptics who have fought, not just to get us out, but to moderate the effect that the union has on our country. If it wasn’t for them we would no doubt live in a different UK now and would most certainly have a different currency. As a pro European I can admit that they have probably done the country a good deed, acting as moderators to keep the in-at-all-costs brigade in check.

The boot is on the other foot now though and some pro Europeans are no doubt going to try and act as moderators to keep the out-at-all-costs’ brigade in check. We may well find in the future that they too have done the country a good deed.
Strange how Merkel seems to speak for the European Parliament ...
That's because Merkel is the European Parliament.
And of course they have discussed it already.
what a load of hogwash from JJ and eddie: Firstly Eddie, we are out of the club we don't give a rats plaster what cobras they decide WITHOUT us, yes you've bee spouting that like it has some relevance for 9 months. We are walking away, we can ignore the useless shower. JJ: bless did the nasty public not give you the right answer? Now you have to denigrate us. We are not fleeing we are not hiding we are starting the collapse of an evil empire. If you are so blind to what the EU is/was doing then you are just the sort of sucker they like to subjugate. Why don't you move there before the time is up eh?
Omg, have we 2/3 years of the brexiteers moaning, do they know we ARE leaving the EU?
it's the remainiacs moaning and trying to sabotage everything so they can say na na nana na! we are just addressing the BS they spout.
Rubbish .

For generations, votes have been held, and then that's it, everyone gets on with it.

But since the two items mentioned, there is a new approach - the vote is held, and then those who didn't like the result moan loudly at high level and at every opportunity, as though the vote doesn't actually count, and they can still somehow change what has been decided.

I think we need to learn to shut our ears to this nonsense - Brexit is happening, no-one has a script, so no amount of gainsaying - or indeed support-seeking, makes an ounce of difference, we will have to wait and see.
Ditto from me as well TTT !
Bang on andy.

Good grief Andy Hughes I find myself looking at your post@10:50 thinking BA contender for sure. Now don't you go on and spoil it. Haha.
Blimey, AH, another one who's been asleep for forty years. When a result goes against you in politics you fight to limit the damage. It has always been thus, and I suspect always will be thus.

Garaman there is a vast difference between "being asleep" for 40 years and being ignored and silenced for 40 years.
I am sorry, Togo, I don't follow you at all. Nobody has been silenced, though you often need quite a few voices saying the same thing in order to be heard. As I said in an earlier post, the eurosceptics haven't been silenced for forty years, and have in my view done some valuable work in that time.

We are nearly in accord Garaman, but it is noticeable that now quite a few voices have spoken, with indeed the same message, that they are to be ignored once again if they do not demand to heard and keep on saying it.

Insult aside - I am all for limiting damage - but in the case of Brexit, there is no damage to limit because no-one knows what's going to happen.

I'm really going to try my best!!! LOL!

I apologise to both you and Togo if my comment came across as insulting. I can assure you that it was intended light-heartedly, though I do think you are being a tad over-sensitive.

I won't argue with you as I know that could go on all day, suffice to accept that some don't think there will be any damage from Brexit and some think there will.

I notice that the latest EU reaction is to insist that there are to be no individual member state negotiations and indeed no trade discussions at all until the "divorce deal" is concluded. Mrs May should inform them that in this case we will withdraw all our diplomats and trade attache staff from the member states and that they must do the same from the UK. After all they are not needed if this is to be the case. We should then tell them that they must run a single EU Embassy and that we will appoint a UK European Ambassador with attendant staff to make things less complicated.......and send Saint Nigel. That would set em squealing.
