A root cause may never be found.
One needs to do a full blood work up...including cholesterol.blood sugars and a full work up.
Physical examination including angiograms of the arteries of the brain and carotid arteries.
MRI brain scan and ECG.

A cause then may be found.......but in many cases a cause eludes the examiner.
I have just opened the link that has been given by dannyK......perhaps that is a better answer.
