Had trouble with my John Dere petrol lawn mower this morning.
It starts after priming but won't keep running and emits a cloud of white smoke then stops.

I've checked the spark plug, which looked wet, so I'm thinking its a fuel problem.

Any ideas welcome TIA

Sounds like you may have water in the fuel - drain and flush with fresh fuel - carefully!! Before refilling the tank - and use a new fuel can....

Sounds like it's flooding, have you checked the choke?
You will need to remove and clean and DRY the plug. You may need a solvent cleaner to remove any oil residue. Whilst it is drying check the carburettor, ie the jet inlet and if there is any corrosion. Corrosion means a new carburettor. Also would you believe very old fuel left in the mower over the winter will cause problems, you should always drain it and put in fresh fuel.
I think I would change the spark plug and save the faffing Chip.
