Indeed. A bit like the NHS really. When they're good they're very, very good.

they often put their lives on the line, whichever way you look at it.

i agree,
terrible thing about the fatalities including the police officer who was stabbed.
Sadly the police officer has been killed RIP
I have a huge respect for the police, and others mentioned, but sometimes they must feel like banging their heads against a wall, at some of the sentencing that the criminals, and hooligans get.

I watch a lot of the police programmes on TV, and the soft sentences that are dished out, like community service, and suspended prison sentences, is a joke.
I agree with all of the above and feel for his family and friends.

I also know I will upset over the next week as the Tele will be full of talking heads, posh "comedians" and other assorted luvvies who are the worst offenders at running down the Police.
They will do a volte face and tell us how wonderful ur Police are.....
I expect it won't be long before some people on here are calling them "Plod" once again
I wonder if there will be an inquiry into the shooting of the terrorist?

Along the lines of why didn't the policeman use his stun gun, why didn't he aim at an area of the body so as to disable him, etc, etc?
totally agree with all that has been said about emergency service's However can I just say (for clarity) the Paramedics ARE NOT classed as an emergency service that is why they struggle to get funding.

So what is wrong with the word PLOD.

And yes, in times like this it is good to see, unfortunately not all are quite so committed, the Police Force, sorry Service has been infiltrated by a load of liberal elites who would not be seen anywhere near such incidents unless it was the photo op many hours later.

A
Unquestionably I'd have thought, emmie.

i have called them plod before now, i don't call that offensive, just merely another word for bobby on the beat.

from what i heard the man stabbed the policeman with a machete, so its hardly likely that he could have been disarmed with a stun gun. I am not sorry the police used their weapons that is what they are trained to do, and not sorry the perpetrator of this heinous crime is dead, inquiry or no inquiry.
I think our police put up with a hell of a lot. You only have to watch some of the police programmes on TV to see how verbally abused they are by thugs and yobs both male and female and what they have to put up with daily. They can't fight back and have to be professional at all times when I'm sure they would love to react ...

couldn't agree more.
Thanks em.
Our police-men and police-women are second-to-none. Having chosen an exceptionally challenging and often-dangerous career, rather vocation, I am proud of them; more so, that their carrying weapons is the exception, rather than the rule - and long this remain so.
