Did Inspector Morse, the character played by John Thaw on telly, have a wife and/or children? Did Colin Dexter write the TV series as well a the books it was based on?

Morse (the character) never married or had children. One of the enduring features of the series (and the books) was Morse's disastrous love life. Colin Dexter wrote 14 Morse novels and collaborated in the writing of all 33 episodes of the TV series. He was also consulted quite widely on the writing of the sequel "Lewis" and the prequel "Endeavour".

He was married to Sheila Hancock. I don't know about children.
Question Author
The CHARACTER, not the actor
and a daughter called Abigail who was in a recent episode of Endeavour
3 children.
No; don't think so but we was credited as 'inspired by Colin Dexter' latterly.
No and No
the character .......no wife/children
Morse was not married and no children.

The first of 33 episodes of the Inspector Morse television series was presented in 1987, with John Thaw as Morse and Kevin Whately as Lewis, and Dexter himself appearing in various cameos. When the novels ran out, Dexter wrote additional scripts for Morse before turning over the series to other writers. The last episode, in 2000, featured Morse’s death, and after Thaw’s death in 2002
The character Morse ( John Thaw) never had any children or a wife, only relationships that turned sour on him. Therefore no children. I am also lead to believe that Colin Dexter did write the series as well as the books.
Morse never married or had children.
The tv series was written by many different people but based on Dexter's books
Colin Dexter wrote roughly half of the TV episodes:

Morse never married (or fathered children)
Morse lost the love of his life and never married......Colin Dexter wrote just the books but had cameo roles in nearly all episodes of the TV series....quite fun spotting him.....x
