I keep getting a pop-up stating that Firefox has prevented the outdated plugin 'Adobe flash' from running.

Should I update it or just continue to ignore the message?

Ignore it.
Flash makes your computer highly vunerable to attack by criminals, spammers and viruses. Most companies gave up on it long ago, and most video (which is what it is for) now use different and better plugins to do what Flash is for.
Additionally, you may get the message "adobe flash has crashed, do you want to reload it?" - as Gromit says, it's often not very important and you should be fine to leave it "crashed".

Thank you both for your very reassuring answers.
I have cleared-out 'Flash' from my PC and Laptop, which both work fine without the add-on.

Do as I have done and wait to see if you get a message saying you need 'Flash' for a particular site. If then you get such a message you could look to see if there is another site that will give you that for which you are searching.

Or, if you using Chrome it will prompt to to turn it on for that site, which would be fine. FF may do the same.
Question Author
Thank you Hans, how do I clear Flash from my computer, and will it effect any other programmes if I do?
Removing 'Flash' will Not affect any other programmes in your Computer.

Click open 'Control Panel' then 'Programmes & Features. Click 'Flash' in list of programmes and then you can easily uninstall from the displayed instructions.

Thank you Hans for getting back to me, I will do what you suggest, thanks once again.
Adobe Flash Player is a well-known route for nasty stuff to get onto your computer but
(a) it's safe enough if you ensure that it's up to date ; and
(b) you need Flash to view many websites containing videos. (Although many sites, including Youtube, are now switching over to using HTML5, Flash continues to be the main way of offering video content across millions of websites).

So my recommendation is to keep Flash but to ensure that it's up to date.

Go here
https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Deselect the 'optional offers'.
Click 'Install Now' to download the file.
Click the 'Downloads' button in your browser. (In Firefox it's a downward-pointing blue arrow at the top right of your screen).
Double-click on file name to run the installation process.
Close, and then re-open, your browser.
(If you don't change the default setting in the installation process, Adobe Flash Player will automatically update itself in future).
Do not click it as it will make you install PUP. If you get this pop up no matter which page you are scanning, you should check for malware on computer. The best way to update software is to download the newest version from its official website.
