I'm okay when I sit up but I've noticed when I lie down I my back/ left side I get a sort of pressure pain round from the top of my ribs to my back. I thought it was indigestion as I get GERD and have a hiatus hernia, but I've taken omeprazole and gaviscon and hours later it's still the same. I have a very annoying tickly cough but not sure if that's related. Any idea what could be causing this side /back pain?

I can't help with the pain, but I've had an annoying tickly cough since January; I think that may just be one of this winter's bugs.
It's probably musculoskeletal in nature. I daresay you've pulled something inadvertently when coughing.

If you can tolerate them with your PPI cover, Ibuprofen should help.
What an odd story.....the" tickly" cough could well be associated with your GERD and providing that you are not getting any shortness of breath on exercise, I would agree with the assessment of NoMercy above.
Nothing sinister springs to mind.

Sqad- I am very short of breath on exercise. I can barely get up the stairs cos at the top I can hardly breathe. I know I am really unfit but this is unusual for me to be this bad.
Does this alter anything?
You didn't mention the shortness of breath.........
Yes it does alter the picture......see you GP who will perhaps arrange a chest X-Ray.
