Does anyone know who Princess Margaret's equerry was? I don't mean Townsend, who she wanted to marry, but the person who worked for her right up to her death.

Thanks Mamyalynne, but this guy was just a friend - not her equerry.
Sorry.
Sorry, but which do you want~Your question says"Does anyone know who Princess Margaret's equerry was" and then when Mamyalynne suggests Colin Tennant (who's wife was Princess Margaret's senior lady in waiting for many years) You want someone who was just a friend which Colin Tennant was, but never P.M's Equerry just a very good friend,he never worked for her though.Of course there is this person~

Oldbather, Luzzly wants to know the name of Princess Margaret's equerry at the time of her death.

Mamylynne suggested Colin Tennant, but as the OP pointed out - he was not her equerry, he was her friend
Townsend was never her equerry anyway. He was equerry to King George VI.
did she definitely have one? Townsend worked for the queen, not her
Question Author
Yes, she definitely had an equerry. I once worked with his daughter many years ago, but I can't remember her name. I thought if I could find out his name, I could find hers. I think you misunderstood my answer OldBather. : )

And Mamyalynne - there's no apology needed! Any attempt to answer a question is much appreciated.

I think it was a simple misunderstanding, the only problem is whatever search term you use 'Equerry/Princess Margaret' always brings up Townsend.

I've tried 'friend' in various ways, 'loyal servant' and 'personal secretary' all to no avail.
I list of Princess Margaret' s who got honours in the year of her death. Equerry isn't mentioned but it might be worth looking at the names.

I never tried 'Treasurer' which he was at the time of her death - well found,

I only did an extra link because the Times is behind a paywall usually.
Nigel Napier was Comptroller and Private secretary to Princess Margaret 1973-1998 then Treasurer until her death in 2002.
Nicholas Lowther was her Private Secretary from 1998 until her death, but I don't know if they would have been called her Equerry.perhaps Luzzly might recognise the names.
Hopefully so, well done.
Thanks Mamya.

Napier - yes it was Napier - thanks so much for all the help. Georgina Napier is the person I'm thinking of.
