on reading a poor guy who has lost his dog and having to fork out a lot of money

i went on to insure maxie just there now - pet plan quoted standard £18.48 - went into Tesco and they were i think £8.50 - however what i would fear - it won't allow me to put breed of dog which is cross breed - so i would be afraid if hardy comes to hardy and something unfortunate happened to maxie they wouldn't pay as i had stated he was only bichon frise only when he bichon frise x shih tzu. can insurance companies renege like this. thnks

Lots of people own mongrel dogs. I don't think the insurance companies would differentiate between a pedigree and a mongrel. Ring them and ask, JJ.

Would you like me to ring them for you? I will, if you want.
Question Author
oh that's very kind of you tilly - i have just contacted them there by email so should hear perhaps tomorrow. thanks again tilly - appreciate that.
I have just had a look at the Tesco pets insurance website and there is a facility for insuring cross breed dogs. Have another look, JJ.
Question Author

When you click 'get a quote'

They ask - Pet's name
Whether Cat or Dog
Then
Cross breed or pedigree

Welcome, sleep well x
I'm with Tesco insurance for my dog Rosco. As Tilly has said, there's a section from a drop down menu (if I remember correctly) for entering crossbreed/mongrel dog details. Hopefully by now you will be sorted x
Question Author
right, went onto site again - it asked ok and i said cross breed - next question was "what breed" - i ignored that and completed the rest of form - wouldn't give me a quote cos it wanted "breed" - ????
Question Author
forgot tesco and got insurance from asda. thanks all for your help.
Glad you got sorted.

Where it said 'crossbreed' as an option, I seem to remember in said 'mongrel' about 2 buttons to the right, as I don't know the history of one of our dogs I selected that, and that was it, no more breed questions.
If you insure with Tesco they will put up the cost each year unless you challenge the cost. They will 'give you a special offer' then put the cost on your next renewal. Beware!
I disagree with you thugulike. I've had Rosco insured with Tesco since he was a puppy (now 7) & the premium renewed just a few weeks ago, in January, actually went down! Yes, I was surprised too
