My daughter is having her adopted daughter christened. All the family has been invited, including my Jehovah's witness nephew and family. They have refused to attend due to religious reasons.
BTW, it's going to be a catholic ceremony, as her husband is one.
Could anyone enlighten me on what those reasons are?

lol Dougie !

If people are plagued by these pests, please try the "disfellowship" method, as it appears to work.
My mother in law is Catholic and as far as she is concerned all other religions are wrong, will not step foot in another church so its not only JW's that have weird ideas.
I find saying 'no thank you' is enough there really is no need to be rude to them.
Mikey, what's the disfellowship method?
I've just googled it and know what the word means, but I don't know how I, as a non-believer, can use it.
Jo....disfellowship in JWs means that a Member of the church has done something so 'orrible, that all the others Members are told to shun and disfellowship that person.

Quite mild offences, such as disbelieving the Watchtower, smoking and fornication are considered suitable for disfellowshipping. The shunning is meant to apply not only to friends of that person, but even close family members.

So..... if you tell a JW, when they knock on your door, that you have been disfellowshipped, they will immediately turn around and run back down your front path, vaulting the front gate if necessary.
I see. Thanks, Mikey.
I used to just say that I've invited their brethren in, read the books etc. and it's not for me. I haven't seen them for ages.
Jo....my experience in the past is that t dangerous to partake of any conversation with JWs on the doorstep, as they are highly trained to objection handling.

I tried to be clever once, years ago, by saying Boker Tov
( Good Morning ) and explaining that I was Jewish. This was a huge mistake as they said...."Oh thats wonderful, so you are familiar with Judean-Christian belief system then ?"
JWs are allowed to smoke (and drink). Not sure what their stance is on fornication.
JWs are no better and no worse than any other religion.

They are always polite and sincere and although not my cup of tea (being an atheist and all) but I treat them as I do anyone else of a religious or non religious persuasion.

It is quite well known what they do and do not allow within their religious remit and a Google will give lots of information.

But it is interesting that the issue of ingesting or recieveing of whole blood is relatively easily got around nowadays with plasma and blood in its separate constituent parts. As one of them once told me, if it hadn't been for the insistence that JWs not get blood that medicine has progressed a great deal which has helped everyone and not just JWs
Don't you know of the JW.org website. All your questions will be answered. Go to those who know rather than ask those who only go by hearsay.
hi nice to see you posting Good life

goodlife, you profess to know the truth so why don't you enlighten us?
From the JW website:

//the Bible shows that God views the young children of Christians as being holy, or clean in his sight, because of the parents’ faithful course.//

So the young children of non-believers are deemed unholy. How do these people live with themselves? Utterly despicable!
