Has anyone here had radiotherapy following chemo and hysterectomy please? I was fine with chemo, hardly any side effects, but I have to have radiotherapy 5 days a week for 5 weeks :(

Thanks in advance

I have had a radical hysterectomy followed by chemo and then radiotherapy. Chemo was not as bad as I anticipated but still not a walk in the park. Radiotherapy is totally painless and very quick. The only snag being that, in my own case, I had to travel in daily to central London to the hospital using Patient Transport (because of mobility problems) and this...

Glad today went smoothly.x

It did, thank you Mamya, apart from hitting the rush hour traffic, but it's only to be expected. Tomorrow's appt is at 6.30, which isn't going to be much different. They've told me that they'll try to put me down for lunchtime/mid afternoon appts in future.

I'm delighted that has moved on since then Baths, I did say medicine moves forward all the time, it would be great if you had an earlier appointment, get it out of way, relax in the afternoon or treat yourself if you feel up to it. Your nurse or whoever you asked must have thought; "aluminium! that was time of dinosaurs" it was 2004. Good luck with your appointment later - I'll be thinking of you as I did yesterday around the 5.30 mark - I just had another look at my journal - wiped the cobwebs off it, it's around now I started my radiotherapy too, I remember I was there for St. Patrick's day (I'm in Ireland) the hospital put on a right old party for us, music, craic and few drinks the hospital is in Rathgar in Dublin so the loacl pub had a horse running in a big race and it won, they sent food and drinks up to us (Not treatment related I know, was just a nice break we had from it)

Aaww ducksie, how lovely, not all cancer memories are bad, are they?
Well I've been out in storm Doris this aft, and I nearly passed out in shopping centre. Security staff were wonderful with me, sat me down and I had some water from my bottle, and they asked me if I'd eaten,...and had to be honest + said no, so some chocolate buttons were sent for, and I perked up no end!. Went + had coffee+cake in an caff, and was going to walk down to Sainsbury's for a few bits, and get a taxi home from there, but I just didn't have another ounce of strength in me, so I declare my 1st side-effect......easily knackered :)
Wish I could just stay here in the warm, but will have to go out again at 5 for treatment :(

Not all memories are bad Baths, oh dear, you really took on a lot, it's an unnatural tiredness, that's why I'm delighted you will be getting your appointments moved to an earlier time, once you get home, you're liable to sleep standing up - as you see today. Are you using the little walking aid while you are out. I have a lot of good memories too, best thing is, all the fighting, the pain, the tiredness and whatever came with it, I'm here, there's not many can say that. Just go with the flow and remember, sleeping and eating (even small amounts) is so important to recover. Be kind to yourself. I used to have the radiologists amused with my calling the treatment being zapped, I told my oncologist how many times I'd been zapped when he reviewed my treatment and he'd give a little smile as he glanced at me over his half cut specs :) then he told me I needed another 2 booster zaps, I wasn't smiling for a few hours after that, the inner child was throwing a hissy fit, I got over it, only another 2 days. Ah, I'm sorry you felt the effects so soon after your first treatment, I'm delighted to read how kind the staff were to you in the shopping centre, what were you thinking going out in the storm? bring a friend or your OH with you if you can when going out, I know you have to get the essentials in, I still have to do that stuff, I'm often (even now) confined to bed, easy for medical staff to say when I need to get in a shopping, pay bills and see folk, everyone likes to feel that life is normal, so, I often listen to my nurse, lie there, all tucked up, once I see back of her car turn the corner onto the main road, I'm up and out before she can think of her next house call.

Lol ducksie @ you and the nurse! My OH took me today cos it was a late apptmnt, 6.30. Not a brilliant trip down, heavy traffic, but only to be expected at that time.I lay my head on his shoulder while in the waiting room, and I think I had a little snooze ;) Uneventful treatment, but was 2 girls, which I preferred to the usual girl and guy, especially as I have to pull my pants down just as I'm getting on the table(can't call it a couch, it feels and looks like a sheet of glass)
Bit apprehensive about tomorrow, I'm being taken there by a volunteer who I found through the WVS..I had a hell of a time trying to find one....none at all in my town, Oldham,...this was through WVS in Rochdale. So, if I'm not on here tomorrow night, get searching for a cess pit ;) Sorry, I have an evil SOH!

I was wondering, as this thread is now just you and me chatting, if you were on Facebook, and you had mutual friends with me. Or maybe the Ed can let us swap emails somehow? The FB friends I have who also post on here are DTCrossword, Sunny Dave, Mamyalynne, Minty, Ask your Gran,Postdog,Waterboatman, McFluff, Mazie and sherradk, with apologies to any I've forgotten!
It would be great if you were FB friends with any of those folk, and I'm sure they'll pass on our email addys or FB name! That would stop this thread from being just you and me having a good old chinwag!

Here's hoping,

Question Author
Thanks Mamya and Tambo. I've got a feeling he won't last the 5 weeks, dunno why, just an instinct. WVS lady told me they would only charge me £4 for first 5 miles, then 60p a mile thereafter. God only knows how she arrived at that figure :) Could have got a taxi there for less than that and waited however long for OH to come for me after work! Not that I'm bothered about supporting a charity, but Geez, are they taking the urine here? x x
That's disgraceful charging for the fare there Baths, they are really taking the p*sz there
I had to Google what was WVS - you will get home ok :)
yeah as you go down Oldham road and cross Droyslen rd traffic lights,
roll down the window and yell - cooeee !

and I'll know you're OK
I am the one the cars are aiming at with the yellow dog.....

[do it one the way back too: I will still be there - traffi dodging]
:) I could see her doing it too, is she's awake
Nearly a week of treatment, well done baths
I used to use taxis in the city - newco Millwright st NH arent bad
a bit far for you....
a bit un nerving to be picked up a year later and the driver
oh hello - you - how are you doing ?

Hi Peter. Did those numbers mean anything to you?

Yes, I do get PIP, but at the lower rate, not the one that includes mobility probs, which would get me a blue badge here, but tbh I want to keep my head down and not have to see them again ;)
