Twice this evening I have had extremely painful cramp at the front of my ankle just where my leg joins my foot. I sat and massaged it hard but it took ages to subside. Now 2 hours later it has started again. Anyone know why it's happening and a quicker remedy to make it go away.

try stretching your foot out straight and flexing it a bit. There's no real answer to cramps, they're painful. Longer term, if it happens a lot, eat bananas and take magnesium tablets - Sqad doesn't think these help but they've helped me.
Rotate your foot in a circular motion.
Doesn't sound like typical cramp pain....on the front of your ankle is unusual and the time it took to abate seems rather long for cramp.
Had you been doing a lot of gardening or walking ?
See what happens tonight i.e monitor the situation.
Tonic water is good for cramp. It works for me and doesn't take long to work. It might sound strange, but it does work. So I always keep some in the fridge.
Magnesium tablets daily - regardless of what sqad says. I started taking them several months ago and haven't had a bout of cramp since.

I drink a lot of Tonic Water, I still get the occasional cramp, do you think the Gin I add to it dilutes the effect?

I certainly do think it was cramp Sqad - the kind that makes you jump and shout "Yarooo - ouch!" I had those pains on the top of my foot three times that evening/during the night but thankfully not since Thursday night. Could it be a coincidence that since mid week I have just started to take Vitamin D tablets as according to bloods my levels are not quite up to where they should be (level 21 in 2015 and 51 last year) I just checked the label on Vit D tablets and they also contain Magnesium so maybe Naomi's theory is correct as I haven't had cramp since Thurs night (plus I also had a couple of bananas for lunch Friday) so maybe I have found the cure unwittingly Haha! Thanks all for your help!
