Sounds very useful to me, as I seem to have a growing collection of things that need charging !
....i don't get that. When you charge something you put the plug in the socket and the usb bit in the device........?
Question Author
its a double socket with two places for ordinary plugs and at the top is two usb sockets xx
Speaking generally (ie not specifically about the Aldi product) this type of socket is notoriously unreliable - the USB outlets just seem to pack up after a while.

Hopefully the Aldi version is better than most (at least they'll take it back if it fails).
The USB part is on the socket. You use a USB lead to charge your device as you would had you plugged it into the PC.

Seems a little extreme to me to go around changing wall sockets for that though.

Tilly, You use the sockets as normal, then you can charge two extra items via the USB Sockets at the same time
I must be really dense. My phone charger has a plug at one end and a tiny usb thing at the other end.

The plug goes in the socket on the wall and the usb bit goes in the phone.

Sorry about this but I really don't get it, even with photos.

Unless....some chargers have usb bits at both ends?
Some leads have a USB in one end and a phone socket at the other. The charger bit will be inside the wall socket.
I do apologise. I have just had a good look at my phone charger. I had no idea it had a usb at both ends!

Sorry :-(

I get it now.
Oh and yes, The mini (or is it micro) USB socket is an appalling choice for a charging socket. The should never have removed the dedicated phono type socket for charging. Continual plugging and unplugging a charger makes the mini USB unreliable and the same goes for the charger plug. (Either not charging unless the lead is fiddled with and the mobile put down carefully, or even discharging the battery further.) Not sure which fares worse. I got some success with a separate expensive charger unit without a charging lead but a USB socket, and a quality USB to micro USB lead to plug into the charger; from Maplins. No idea when that will start having issues too.
Try Screwfix instead. They have a massive range of them in all shapes and colours. Should you ever need to return it, they'll do it in an instant. The problem with Aldi is that if it packs in at any time in the future, the best they can do is refund you the cost - not very useful if you've got to go tramping elsewhere to get a replacement.
I have something similar, really useful.
I've had them for a few years. Great idea
