ANOTHEOLDGIT, can't see why you think I am stupid.

If someone said they were neither British nor English but a proud Yorkshireman, I would be asking a similar question if their avatar had an English flag rather than their own County's flag.

You are a proud English man yet use the UK's flag instead.

Obviously you have never served in the Armed Forces, the Union Flag is what one swears allegiance to, it is the flag that is raised in the morning and lowered in the evening, whether one is an Englishman, a Scotsman, a Welshman or an Northern Irishman.

Haven't you noticed that although the Queen was born in England and her Palace is in England, the Flag that flies while she is in residence is the Union Flag.

Oh dear AOG, you have let the side down. The flag flown at the royal residence is the Royal Standard and not the Union Flag. The colours are slightly different.
I live and learn. I was always given to understand the 'Royal Standard' flew over all royal residences when the monarch is residing there. The Union flag in their absentia.Only the Union flag can be flown at half mast and never The Royal Standard, as, there is always a monarch.
Nice try ANOTHEOLDGIT...it's the Union Flag that flies when she's not there.

I'm not sure what relevance the flag flown at the Palace has to your choice of avatar mind.
Maybe that's why he's English and not British if he has a problem identifying the Union Flag...
^ Oh stop bloody nitpicking !!!
Is a flag mentioned in the army, RN or RAF Oath of Allegiange?
