What was the name of the swimming commentator, who was from Birmingham, who worked for BBC TV in the 60's and 70's?

If it's T.V. the names Harry Walker and Max Robertson come to mind.

Hamilton Bland ?
Alan Weeks?
^^^ Hmmm.

Those are both possible suggestions but Alan Weeks was a Brightonian and Hamilton Bland didn't start commentating on swimming until 1975.

The BBC's principal (male) swimming commentator prior to that was Peter Jones, but he was Welsh!
Nigel stamer smith
^^^ I doubt it, Weecalf.

NSM was from Cheltenham, Wikipedia only refers to him as a rugby commentator and a Google search for his name with 'swimming' yields no relevant results.
Ron Pickering???
^^ RP was a cockney who commentated on athletics.
Peter Jones was a swimming commentator for bbc
That was my thought too, Bernie.

Perhaps Old_Labour is getting Wales mixed up with Birmingham?
Hugh Porter? Read his Wikipedia page.
^^^ Well I've read it, Trishy, but it says that he only recently started commentating on swimming (so that's probably about 40 years out).

Interestingly though, he's married to Anita Lonsbrough, who partnered Peter Jones in the commentary box almost half a century ago.

Thank you grumpy01 As soon as I saw the name Harry Walker I recognised it.

Buenchico. I lived in Birmingham for 66 years before moving to Wales 10 years ago so I would be the last one to confuse the two :o)
